CLONES: Old Wente clone
PLANTED: 1991
SOIL: Silty clay loam
YIELD: 4 tons per acre
GROWER: Michael Sangiacomo
This vineyard is owned by the Sangiacomo Family and is farmed by brothers Michael and Steve Sangiacomo — the third-generation of this highly respected winegrowing family to farm in Sonoma County. Located in the Los Carneros appellation, which overlaps the Sonoma Coast appellation, this area is particularly well-suited for growing exceptional Chardonnay, having both a cool climate and well-drained soils. The Green Acres Hill Block was planted to the Sangiacomo-Wente selection in 1991 and utilizes VSP trellising. The vineyard’s rocky, well-drained soils are reminiscent of those in Burgundy, and their shallow soils keep vine vigor in check and produce low yields of less than seven pounds per vine.
